A correction - the Crystal Jubillee celebration of this Observatory was held in June 2001, and not June 1991!

This is where I worked as the Officer-in-charge from 1994 to 2004. It is a centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, and was set up in 1986. Then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri. Digvijay Singh, visited this centre during the Crystal Jubilee celebrations in June 1991. Had a great time working here!

PTS Pachmarhi was established by my father Major G.K. Verma in 1964. Earlier it was located at Jabalpur but on the directives of Mr. K.F Rustomjee IPS, my father was given the task of shifting the school. My brothers were studying in Scindhia School, Gwalior whereas I, a small kid of 5 years was in pachmarhi. I was the lone student in the Convent School in the first year of its origin. Sister Christopher and Sister Phelomena, both from Ireland looked after me and incidentally both are alive and are at Asha Niketan, Bhopal. We used to play in in Pandav Caves which was just behind our Bungalow called 'BYKE'. In the 60s we had lot of Britishers still in Pachmarhi and I recollect Mr. D'Silva and his wife who were very fond of me. They had a dog called Rascal and bitch called lady. I have vivid memories of Pachmarhi, a hill station which had the colonial look. But now perhaps things must be differen and it must be highly commercialized. Raaj Verma. Bhopal

This Hawai patti is just a patti. Not even apology for an air strip. I have seen this patti in reasonable good condition in 1965! One of the first VIPs to land there in a Dakota, which the Air Force boys used to call "The Flying Coffin", was Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw, the one and only Sam Bahadur:)
